A pathfinder is a guide for researchers. They have traditionally been used in libraries for years to save researchers' time, so they avoid frustrating dead ends. Traditionally pathfinders have been paper documents, but now they exist online where they are easily edited and updated. As you will see, you will be given some keywords and call numbers of relevant words for you to use in your research when you are using books, databases and websites. You will also be provided with links to useful websites (that have been checked by Mrs Morris, Mr Jongen or Ms Sweeney for credibility, reliability, accuracy and purpose). Importantly there are a range of suggested strategies for searching for information, such as alternative search engines to try, note taking grids, bibliography templates, Web 2.0 presentation tools ...

It is our job as teacher librarians to help you, as student researchers, to know about the best tools and strategies and to get the most out of your search and presentation of information, while avoiding PLAGARISM.
